Description

Book I of one of the most important medical manuscripts from the 10th century by Iranian physician 'Ali ibn al-'Abbas al-Majusi, written for King 'Adud al-Dawla. Includes treatises one to five inclusive.

Acquisition note

Bought from Murad Baroody in Beyrouth, Lebanon for £4. Bought alongside 22 other manuscripts. Accessioned 12th March 1915.

Script: Naskh Ink: Black and red Scribe: Hanna, a physician

Ownership note

Known owners: Husain bin Mustafa (1652 A.D.), 'Umar 'Abd al-Baqi (1679 A.D.), Hanna, a physician of Aleppo (1703 A.D.), Yusuf, a physician and son of Hanna, a physician (1744 A.D.), and Aspir son of Yusuf (1779 A.D.). Last three owners seem to represent three generations of one family of physicians. Another owner's entry is Husain bin 'Uthman.
