MS.7593/1-20: pencil sketches by Barton made on the Yangtze, dated 1861.

MS.7593/21-31: photographs of other sketches by Barton, some of which were used for engravings to illustrate Five months on the Yang-Tse, by Thomas W. Blakiston (London, John Murray: 1862), dated c.1862.

MS.7593/32-52: engravings for use in Five months on the Yang-Tse, by Thomas W. Blakiston (London, John Murray: 1862), based on sketches by Barton, with draft captions, dated 1862.

MS.7593/53-57: Chinese visiting cards acquired by the expedition, dated 1861.
