Register of Patients Under Compulsory Detention

This register contains the register number, patient name, dates of admission and discharge, which Section (3/4/5) patient is classed under, sex, date of birth, date of twelve month review and observations. The first fifteen patient names listed cover admission dates 1938-1962 and are followed by a note on page 2 stating that the remainder of the register comprises names of patients admitted under the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1960, operating from 1st June 1962. At the end of the volume it is noted that the names of all patients listed in this register still resident as at 1 January 1982, have been transferred to the Register of Patients, containing both formal and informal patients, see DGH1/5/6/1.

Sections 3, 4, and 5 refer to Sections of the National Health Service, with Section 3 being patients receiving free treatment and Sections 4 and 5 being fee paying patients at various rates.
