Description
Photograph of four clamps used in ovariotomies. From left to right: a Hutchinson's clamp, c.1863 ; a second Hutchinson's clamp; Spencer Well's version of the calliper clamp, c.1880; and Spencer Well's circular clamp. The Hutchinson's clamps and Spencer Wells circular clamp were acquired by the Wellcome HIstorical Medical Museum at an unknown point and accessioned in the 1920s (accession numbers R24126, R24125 and R24124). The calliper clamp was acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and given accession number A500370. It is now held by the Science Museum (object number A500370).
