Biographical note

Project Summary:A period of research and development involving four new collaborative relationships between artists and scientists that consider the subject of sporting excellence from an artistic viewpoint, against an informed scientific background. The project takes its theme and title from an expression that has entered popular parlance. The description of someone being 'in the zone' usually refers to an athlete or sports star attaining a heightened state of performance, in which body and mind are operating in unison, at maximum impact and with optimum 'flow', with the increased levels of confidence and focus that ensue seemingly causing the player to up their game even further. The distinguishing features of this elusive, temporary state, and the quantifiable contributory factors behind it, will form the topic of these collaborative researches, which will draw upon the creative insights and specialist knowledge of artists, sports scientists, and experts from the fields of medicine and psychology.
