Description

Photograph of a pair of pointing bones joined with hair string, from the Kaytetye people, and a pointing stick in wood cut to represent a miniature spear and shield, from the Arrernte people, Central Australia. The items were purchased at auction by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1935 and accessioned in 1936 (accession numbers R6134/1936 and R6136/1936). They were included in the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum exhibition "Medicine of the Aboriginal Peoples in the British Commonwealth" held in 1952 and published in Catalogue of an exhibition illustrating the medicine of the aboriginal peoples in the British Commomwealth.
