![N° ] 7,643 A.D. 1806 Date of Application, 10th Aug., 1896—Accepted, 19th Sept., 1896 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION. A Pocket Electric Lamp for Use by Surgeons and the like. We, Robert Anderson Smith, Agent, and Frederick George Bowley Green, Agent, both of 19 Waterloo Street, in the County of the City of Glasgow, North Britain, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed to be particularly described and ascertained in and 5 bv the following statement:— c_» Our invention, which relates to a pocket electric lamp for use by surgeons and the like, consists in its simplest form of a battery or a series of small batteries contained within a leather or other case and adapted to be carried in the pocket of the operator. From the terminals of the battery the line wires are led to a small 10 incandescent lamp which projects from a flexible tube placed in circuit. This electric circuit is made and broken by means of a press button of the type usually employed in electric bell fittings. In the drawing appended hereto, the case containing the battery or batteries preferably of the dry cell type is marked A. The dry cell or cells are of sufficient 15 battery power to cause a current to pass by means of the terminals B through the line wire C to the small incandescent lamp D and back to the said terminals.0 The lamp D, by means of such current, is of sufficient illuminating capacity as to enable an inspection and surgical operation being made on the larynx or other cavity of the oody. To facilitate the lamp being placed in the position required by the 20 operator, the line wire C leading to the lamp D is made to pass within the hollow of a flexible tube E composed of any suitable insulating material or materials ; and upon the outer end of this tube E the said lamp is mounted as shewn. At the jointure of the cathode stem and lamp we fit a small vulcanite stem e, into the lamp end of the stem and this vulcanite stem is filled in with plaster of Paris and serves 25 to act as a holder and reflector for the lamp. The cathode terminal is marked B1. The current is completed and> broken at the will of the operator bv the press button arrangement 1 which is well understood. At the terminals B and Bl respectively small insulated pieces h and bl are provided. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of our said inveu- 30 tion and in what manner the same is to be performed we declare that what we claim is :— A pocket electric lamp for use by surgeons and the like constructed substantially in the manner and for the purposes hereinbefore described and illustrated on the accompanying sheet of drawings.
