Typescript draft annotated partial copies of chapter 5, ‘Crystal genes’, and chapter 6, ‘Go back to your microscopes!’, from Wilkins’ autobiography, <i>The third man of the double helix</i> (Oxford University Press, 2003), concerning early DNA research in the Medical Research Council Biophysics Unit, King’s College London, before 1951, particularly Wilkins’ working relations with John Randall and Rosalind Franklin. Also related notes on Randall and Franklin, including comment on the possible motives underlying some of Randall’s managerial decisions as Director, Medical Research Council Biophysics Unit, King’s College London.
