Description

Photograph of six Roman votive offerings in the form of a uterus. Top row, left to right: the first two are wrinkled to represent the uterus after delivery. They were acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Musuem at an unknown point and accessioned in 1936 (accession numbers R2480/1936 and R2479/1936). The third was purchased by the Museum in Rome in c.1924 and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R3387/1936). Bottom row, left to right: the first was acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and accessioned in 1946 (accession number R368/1946). The middle one is wrinkled to represent the uterus after delivery. It was acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and accessioned in 1936 (accession numbers R2472/1936). The last one was purchased by Captain Johnston-Saint, a Museum employee, in 1934 and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R5256/1936).
