Biographical note

Pauline Skelly was Liverpool's first female headteacher, and headteacher of Dovecot County Primary School where she championed the integration of children affected by thalidomide into mainstream schooling.

Ownership note

After Skelly's death, the papers were given by her neighbour to an ex-pupil, who in turn donated them to the Thalidomide Society. The Society deposited the papers with Wellcome Collection as part of accession 2748.
