Project Summary:Artist-photographer Mark Neville will prepare for publication a documentary photobook, 'Deeds Not Words', which investigates issues centering upon environmental : toxicology, birth defect clusters, and ethical responsibility arising from a groundbreaking, contemporary British court case. Photographed primarily in the former steel town of Corby, and engaging people from all aspects of the case of 'The Corby Sixteen', the book will combine new social documentary images of the town authored by Neville, with visual models of biomedical and scientific evidence, archive images, and legal texts. Supported by an advisory team of specialists from the fields of. epidemiology, foetal medicine, waste management, air pollution, and environmental law and ethics, some of whom were witnesses ( on each side ) in the court case, Neville will draw out larger ethical, legal, social, and scientific questions relating to biomedicine, the environment, and their relationship to industrial progress.
