Description

Photograph of a two Roman strigils made of bronze. The upper one was excavated in Rome and decorated with a grotesque animal head. It was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1929 and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R7608/1936). The lower one has a name stamped on the handle, perhaps the name of the owner. It was purchased at auction in 1919 and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R7628/1936). Neither item is held by Wellcome Collection.
